Let’s talk longlines shall we? These can be a tricky fit for those of us who are plus size. If you are like me and pear shaped (my waist is wider than my underbust) it can get even trickier. Nevertheless, in the name of bra science I am willing to try many shapes/styles to see just how they fit! Hopefully my experiments in fit will help you find a better fitting longline!
Because I am pear shaped and somewhat of an /\ shape, this means that at 2 inches down from my underbust I am wider (this longline in particular is about 1.8 to 2 inches longer in the wing than a regular band) in the same brand. This is significant enough to have to consider if a longline band size will fit. The advice I received when I asked what band size to choose was “use your regular band size for longlines“. Now that sounds easy enough but when you consider I am an 1.5” wider 2 inches down from my underbust deciding on size gets a little more interesting. I struggled with deciding and landed on a 95HH which is what I fit into in a regular band. That would be an equivalent to a 40G in UK sizing.
Now I would like to say it was a success but truthfully I should have gone up to the 100H to get a better band fit. As you can see in my pictures I am getting the dreaded band roll on both sides at the bottom which is somewhat counterintuitive given a wider band should be able to sit flatter, right? Not so in my case because of my pear shape. Standing I can wear the band pulled all the way down but for regular wear, I have to push the band up at the front toward the wires to allow for sitting. Once I sit in this design, the band rolls up in the front. Not necessarily that comfy when you can’t be pulling the band down all day long every time you sit. The other problem with pushing the band up slightly to compensate for roll is I do end up with some wire floating. The wires, because they are lifted can move around slightly.
Now, all that being said, you’d think I’d say this bra was totally uncomfortable to wear all day. Not the case at all! It really is comfortable to wear all day and because I can keep the back of the band pulled down mostly without it rolling when I sit I get a nice amount of back fat smoothing. That surprised me to be honest but I decided to work with the good features of the bra. I wore the longline under this wrap dress and as you can see, the bra is doing a great job of smoothing and creating a bit of cleavage.
If you are more of a \/ or | | shape and plus, a longline should work a little better for you! In these cases, choose your regular band size as you will want it snug to give your breasts support. You should experience less roll up than I did.
As for the cups of this bra, I do find Comexim to fit full on top or full all over shapes better. My breasts which are full on bottom and pendulous do not fill out the top of the cup as much as they should. That being said, after some wear my breasts do settle more into the cup and the top starts to fit a little better with a little less gaping. On initial swoop and scoop, there is some gape but after some wearing of the bra, my breasts push closer to each other and fill the top of the cup better and also creates a bit of cleavage.
The materials on this bra are exquisite and Wellfitting has done a tremendous job in making this bra luxurious when they customized their design with Comexim. For the price of the bra, you are getting a high end product.
